Civil Structural Modelling, Analysis and Detailing
About this course

Overview

Software will happily analyse a model that does not represent the structure. Working hands-on in STAAD Pro and AutoCAD, you go from geometry and loading through member design to drawings, on real structures rather than textbook frames, using each tool for what it is genuinely good at.

What you will be able to do

Learning outcomes

  • Build accurate analytical models in STAAD Pro
  • Analyse frames for strength and serviceability
  • Design and check steel and concrete elements
  • Prepare structural detailing in AutoCAD
  • Validate software output against first principles
What the course sets out to do

Course objectives

  • Model structures in AutoCAD and STAAD Pro
  • Apply loads and load combinations correctly
  • Run and interpret structural analysis
  • Design steel and concrete members to code
  • Produce detailed and buildable drawings
Course content

Modules

01

Modelling Fundamentals

Setting up geometry, supports, and section properties for reliable analysis.

02

Loads and Combinations

Applying dead, live, wind, and seismic loads and building code load combinations.

03

Structural Analysis

Running analysis and interpreting forces, moments, and deflections.

04

Steel Design

Designing and checking steel members and connections to relevant codes.

05

Concrete Design

Reinforced concrete beam, column, and slab design and reinforcement detailing.

06

Detailing in AutoCAD

Producing coordinated structural drawings and schedules from design output.

Who it is for

Target audience

Structural and civil engineers, draughtspersons, and design office staff involved in building and structure design.

Before you start

Prerequisites
